POP FLY PRIORITY BEST PRACTICES


Priority is determined by the fielder being able to get to a fly ball without struggle. If a non priority fielder can get to the ball without any struggle and the priority fielder has to struggle, the priority then reverses.

Out Field Priorities

Center fielder has priority over all fielders.

Center field has priority over the left and right fielders of a ball in the gap.

Center field has priority over 2nd base and shorts stop on shallow pop flys.

All Outfielders have priority over the infielders.

Left field has priority over 3rd base on shallow pop flys towards foul territory

Right field has priority over 1st base on shallow pop flys towards foul territory

Infield Priorities

Shortstop has priority over all infielders.

Middle infielders (SS and 2nd base) have priority over the corner infielders (1st base and 3rd base).

Corner infielders (1st and 3rd) have priority over the pitcher and catcher.
